The current Gnome 9.8.0 Stretch DVD was downloaded via torrent for my girlfriend’s old ASUS laptop: I found that my Verbatim Disks DVD was not designed for data/media when downloading. (The DVDs have a great movie cover video on the front of the DVDs.)

I also noticed your problem with a certain USB key, as well as with other Verbatim DVDs of this type. In fact, this image on my Verbatim DVD should probably be the final limited install for the (netinst) CD. (I was in a hurry and didn’t want to look for my CDs.) I got the perfect message that “cd” was initially invalid. In the case of any without a disk, the download will not occur.

I tried a post-Philips DVD-R (burned with the same Gnome image as this second Verbatim, just a few Tracfone devices burned before) and then was able to install it on it, so I also pu / format the partition as bootable before installation. The size of the ISO file and some files were the same on both hard drives.

  • Moral of the story: I made the mistake of using a DVD CD as a CD, an image, and also using aIt would be an unsuitable medium that was primarily intended for data and entertainment purposes, not for loading ISO images, but for CD-DVDs. It seems to me that the medium used here plays a role: be careful! (I also need to be able to use the correct appropriate USB keys for this setup feature.)
